Overview
The Port Chester-Rye Brook library is an independent organization from the Village of Port Chester. The Village of Port Chester supports the Library financially with an annual lump sum payment. The Mayor of the Village of Port Chester holds an honorary seat on the Library Board of Commissioners. The Village of Port Chester maintains a Library Committee that interacts with the Library Commission on issues of budget and programming which affect Port Chester governmental operations. That committee consists of the Mayor and an additional one or two BOT members chosen by agreement of the BOT.
The mission of the Port Chester-Rye Brook Public Library, serving the Villages of Port Chester and Rye Brook, is to provide free access to information, materials, programs, and technology to meet the educational, recreational, and cultural needs and interests of all people. The Library strives to educate, inform, enrich and entertain. It seeks to engender a love of reading, encourage curiosity, and instill joy in learning in patrons of all ages. The Library recognizes, appreciates, and embraces the diversity of its patrons and provides environments and resources that respect this diversity.
